Mock DWI Drill @ AHS 5-10-2010
Members of the Hagaman Volunteer Fire Department organized a Mock DWI presentation for the Amsterdam High School students on Monday May 10. The event organizers wanted to make a lasting impression in the minds of the junior and senior students for this prom season. 4 Amsterdam High School students spent about an hour before the drill getting moulaged. By the time the makeup was on, even the students themselves could not believe the realistic appearance of the injuries. After the makeup was applied the event began. Crashed cars, injured students, fire trucks, police cars and ambulances responded. As approximately 300 students looked on, the firefighters tore apart the cars with the "jaws of life" while paramedics treated the injured. GAVAC Paramedic Supervisor Mayra Rodgriguez assisted with the event planning. In her words "these demonstrations save lives and that is why we are here". Also participating in the event were the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department, GAVAC, and the administrative and teaching staff of Amsterdam High School. A special thanks to Alteries Auto for donating the 2 vehicles needed for the scenario.
