Old Amsterdam,Gallery 1

on January 9, 2011I think I walked every one of these streets with my wife to be (Marylou Hennessey). We can remember Friday nights when downtown was so crowded you could not walk on the sidewalks. Shops were filled and you always ran into friends you knew. I guess we had it pretty good as kids but it took us a few years to "rememsber".

on July 1, 2010Mark picture 131 is my Great Grandfather Jon Wright. This picture means alot to my son and I even though I moved from Rockton years ago ue to m das job I spent time in the summer up to my early 20's in the city. I grew up to also become a fire chief as well as my son who is now an asst. fire chief. Its always been hard to get these type photos because many are missing or in museums and not accesible. Your galleries are helping keep the city we once new and the people in it alive in our memories. Thank you Mark, Kevin Barkley Sr.

on April 3, 2010I was thrilled to view these photos and even more excited to purchase some. My family owned the Atlas, the Griffin Hotel and another one that isn't pictured in the city of Amsterdam. I hadn't seen either of the photos before so this is a great score! Thank You for posting!

on February 2, 2010I grew up in Hagaman in the 40's/50's. Went to Jr High and High School in Amsterdam. First job in State Bank of Albany (loved that clock!). Thank you so much for posting all these photos. What a trip down memory lane! What a pity the powers that be didn't have the foresight to preserve that great little city instead of killing it! I learned to drive in Driver's Ed on those trolley tracks in the winter! Thanks for the memories!

on February 4, 2011Tremendous memories of the OLD, and GOOD Amsterdam. My Brother bought and sent me the picture of the Tryon Theatre.
Our Father was the Projectionist there from the day it opening in 1949,
that and the picture of my grade school (West Spring Street School) - It brought tears to my eyes.
Those were the days now gone with the wind.
Thank You for posting these!
